The current prize money for the Jnanpith Award is ₹11,00,000 (eleven lakh rupees). In addition to the cash prize, the recipient also receives a citation and a plaque bearing the image of Goddess Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of wisdom and eloquence.
Prior to 2013, the prize money was ₹7,00,000 (seven lakh rupees), but it was subsequently increased to its current amount.
