Why did Ramanujan not get the Nobel Prize?
Srinivasa Ramanujan, the great Indian mathematician, did not receive the Nobel Prize in Mathematics because the Nobel Prize was not awarded in Mathematics during his lifetime. The Nobel Prize in Mathematics was first awarded in 1901, but Ramanujan passed away in 1920, before it was established. Furthermore, Ramanujan's work was primarily focused on pure mathematics, and during his time, there was a preference for groundbreaking scientific discoveries or inventions that had practical applications, which may have influenced the decisions of the Nobel Prize committee.
