1. Read the guidelines. The Pulitzer Prize Board publishes guidelines each year that specify the eligibility requirements and submission procedures for each prize category. These guidelines can be found on the Pulitzer Prize website.
2. Determine if your book is eligible. To be eligible for the Pulitzer Prize for fiction, a book must be a first edition, full-length work of fiction published in the United States in the calendar year preceding the date of the award. For other prize categories, see the guidelines for specific eligibility requirements.
3. Prepare your submission. Publishers must submit four copies of each book to the Pulitzer Prize office. The copies must be bound and jacketed, and they must include a title page, copyright page, and author biography. Publishers must also submit a completed entry form, which can be downloaded from the Pulitzer Prize website.
4. Submit your submission. The deadline for submissions is November 1st of each year. Publishers can submit their books by mail or courier to the Pulitzer Prize office. Submissions cannot be accepted by email or fax.
5. Wait for the announcement of the finalists. The Pulitzer Prize finalists are announced in April of each year. The winners are announced in May.
