Henry Fielding (1707–1754) was an English novelist, dramatist, and essayist. He is best known for his novels, such as Joseph Andrews (1742), Tom Jones (1749), and Amelia (1751), which are considered landmarks in the development of the English novel. Fielding is also recognized for his plays and his work as a magistrate and law reformer.
