What is an authoress?

"Authoress" is a term that was historically used to refer to a female author. It's similar to using "actress" for a female actor or "waitress" for a female waiter.

However, the term "authoress" is now considered outdated and even somewhat offensive by many.

Here's why:

* Gender neutrality: The word "author" is gender-neutral and perfectly encompasses both men and women. Using "authoress" reinforces the idea that writing is primarily a male profession.

* Devaluation: Using "authoress" can sometimes be seen as diminishing a woman's accomplishments by emphasizing her gender rather than her writing abilities.

* Unnecessary distinction: The term suggests that a woman's writing somehow differs from a man's, which is not true.

Instead of using "authoress", it's best to simply use "author" for all writers, regardless of their gender.
