While there is no definitive proof of Kālidāsa's existence, he is traditionally believed to have been the court poet of Chandragupta Vikramaditya, who reigned in the 4th century CE.
However, modern scholarship suggests that Kālidāsa might have lived later, perhaps in the 5th or 6th century CE. Regardless of the exact time period, his works are considered masterpieces of Sanskrit literature and continue to be studied and enjoyed today.
