When and how Ronald Dahl became a writer?

While Roald Dahl did not become a writer immediately, his journey began in 1942, when he joined the Royal Air Force during World War II. During his time as a fighter pilot, he wrote his first published story, "A Piece of Cake", which was published in 1942 in a magazine called "The Aeroplane".

This experience sparked a passion for storytelling, which would later blossom into a prolific writing career. However, it wasn't until after the war, in 1953, that he published his first children's book, "The Gremlins".

Dahl's career as a writer continued to flourish, and he went on to write numerous beloved children's books like "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", "Matilda", and "James and the Giant Peach", as well as adult novels like "Danny the Champion of the World" and "The Witches".

So, while the seeds of his writing were sown in 1942, it was 1953 that truly marked the beginning of Roald Dahl's remarkable journey as a writer.
