He was born in Lahore (in what is now Pakistan), and spent his childhood in Shimla. After partition he moved to Delhi and studied at Delhi University, where he showed an early talent for art and cartooning. After graduating, he joined the Indian Foreign Service, where he worked for seven years before turning to full-time cartooning and children's literature.
B. V.'s cartoons have been published in the leading Indian newspapers and magazines, including The Times of India, The Hindu, The Indian Express, and India Today. He has also published several books of cartoons and children's literature.
