What has the author Peter Roach written?

Peter Roach (born 23 December 1939) is a New Zealand linguist specialising in phonetics. He has written extensively on English phonetics and phonology, and is best known for his work on the British English Received Pronunciation (RP) accent, which he has described in detail in his book English Phonetics and Phonology (2009).

He has also written several textbooks on English phonetics, including A Practical Guide to English Phonetics (2000), English Pronunciation in Use (2006), and English Phonetics and Phonology: A Practical Course (2009).

In addition to his work on English phonetics, Roach has also written on other topics in linguistics, such as the history of the English language, and the relationship between language and society. He has published over 100 articles and book chapters, and has edited several books, including Studies in the Phonology of Asian Languages (1982), Phonetic Structures of Languages (1983), and The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Language (1994).

Roach is a Fellow of the British Academy, and a member of the International Phonetic Association. He is also a former President of the Linguistic Society of America.
