What is lead in a newspaper?

In a newspaper, "lead" has two meanings:

1. The Lead Paragraph:

* This is the opening paragraph of a news story.

* It's the most important part and summarizes the most essential information, answering the "who, what, when, where, why, and how" of the story.

* It's written to grab the reader's attention and entice them to continue reading.

2. Lead (as a noun):

* This refers to the person who is in charge of a particular section or topic within a newspaper.

* For example, the "science lead" is responsible for overseeing the science reporting.

Important Note: While "lead" is the most common term for the opening paragraph, sometimes you might see it referred to as the "intro" or "lede."
