However, there are records from the time that contain information about Jolliet's expedition, including:
* The Jesuit Relations: These annual reports compiled by Jesuit missionaries in New France often included accounts of explorers and travelers. There are entries in the Jesuit Relations that refer to Jolliet's journey, but these are not direct quotes from Jolliet himself.
* Father Claude Allouez's Account: Father Allouez was a Jesuit missionary who met Jolliet after his exploration. Allouez recorded his conversations with Jolliet, providing some insights into the expedition.
* The Official Report: Jolliet submitted an official report on his findings to Jean Talon, the Intendant of New France. This report, sadly, is lost.
So, while there's no journal in Jolliet's hand, the information gleaned from these secondary sources is what we use to piece together his journey and discoveries.
