Did James Madison support the National Gazette newspaper?

James Madison was a founding father of the United States and served as secretary of state under Jefferson and became president himself in 1809. Therefore, he could not have supported the National Gazette, which supported anti-federalists and ceased publication in 1801 before Madison assumed the presidency.
