When did paper towel become popular?

The year of 1931 when it became a big seller in Wisconsin. During the Great Depression people used paper towels instead of cloth ones to save and reuse it since paper towels were cheaper. Eventually other states bought into to the idea after a few years which lead it to nationwide use.
