Where does the story take place in gone?

The story of "Gone" by Michael Grant takes place in the fictional town of Perdido Beach, Florida.

The town is geographically isolated, surrounded by a mysterious phenomenon known as the "FAYZ" (an acronym for "Five-Mile Area You've Zone"). The FAYZ is an impenetrable dome-like barrier that cuts off Perdido Beach from the rest of the world, trapping its inhabitants.
