Is robinhood a fairy tale character?

Robin Hood is not a fairy tale character. He is a legendary outlaw in English folklore who is said to have lived during the 12th century. Traditional tales claim that Robin was born in Nottingham and robbed the rich to give to the poor, and that he lived in Sherwood Forest with his band of followers, the Merry Men. Though stories of Robin Hood date back to the 13th century, the most well-known account of him is believed to have been written by the English poet William Langland in the late 14th century in the poem Piers Plowman.
