Vera Claythorne is a young woman who works as a governess. She is beautiful and intelligent, but also cold and calculating. She has a secret past that she is desperate to keep hidden.
Vera is invited to Soldier Island by U.N. Owen. She does not know why she has been invited, but she is intrigued by the invitation. She arrives on the island and meets the other guests.
The guests are all strangers to each other. They are all different ages and from different backgrounds. They have nothing in common, except for the fact that they have all been accused of murder.
One by one, the guests start to die. Vera is terrified. She knows that she is next. She tries to escape from the island, but she is unable to.
Vera is the last person alive on the island. She is confronted by U.N. Owen, who reveals himself to be Justice Wargrave, the judge who presided over the trials of the guests.
Wargrave tells Vera that she is guilty of murder. He tells her that she killed a young boy named Cyril Hamilton. Vera denies killing Cyril, but Wargrave has proof.
Wargrave gives Vera a choice. She can either take her own life or be hanged for murder. Vera chooses to take her own life.
Vera's death is the end of the story. The mystery of Soldier Island is solved.
