How does slade die in Bargain by AB Guthrie?

In A.B. Guthrie Jr.'s *The Big Sky*, not *Bargain*, Slade dies of pneumonia. There is no character named Slade in any of Guthrie's known works with the title *Bargain*. It's possible you're misremembering the title or author.
