Who wrote the original smurfs comic book?

The original Smurfs comic book was created by Peyo, whose real name was Pierre Culliford.

He first introduced the Smurfs in a comic strip called "Johan and Pirlouit" in 1958. Their popularity led to their own series, "The Smurfs" in 1959.
