How many books by Dr. Seuss are banned?

It's not accurate to say that Dr. Seuss books are "banned" in the sense of being outlawed by governments. However, some Dr. Seuss books have been removed from publication by Dr. Seuss Enterprises due to their racist and insensitive content.

Specifically, in 2021, Dr. Seuss Enterprises announced that six books would no longer be published:

* "And to Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street" (1937)

* "If I Ran the Zoo" (1950)

* "McElligot's Pool" (1947)

* "The Cat's Quizzer" (1976)

* "The Cat in the Hat" (1957)

* "Scrambled Eggs Super!" (1953)

These books were chosen because they contain images and language that are considered offensive and harmful to some groups of people, particularly those of Asian and Black descent.

It's important to understand the distinction between a "ban" and the decision of a publishing company to cease publication. While the books are no longer being printed or sold by Dr. Seuss Enterprises, they are still available in libraries and secondhand markets.
