Morrowbie Jukes is a fictional person with a supposedly evil family name. The name was fabricated when the American poet and humorist Don Marquis wrote a series of satiric newspaper columns for The New York Sun around 1910–1913, under the pseudonym "Hermione". She wrote about the Jukes family in columns such as "The Jukes in Literature", "The Jukes in History", "The Jukes in the Professions", and "The Jukes in Society". The "Jukes" name first appeared in Marquis's column on January 19, 1910.
As a fictional character, Morrowbie Jukes has also been used by other authors. For example, in the novel "The Case of the Jaded Shrews" by Erle Stanley Gardner, Perry Mason represents a client named Morrowbie Jukes. In the novel "The Big Sleep" by Raymond Chandler, the character of Eddie Mars is referred to as "Morrowbie Jukes" by Marlowe.
