What was a difficulty for the southern manifesto?

Difficulty in gaining widespread support: Despite being signed by more than 100 members of Congress, the Southern Manifesto struggled to gain support amongst all southern politicians. Some conservative Southerners did not support the document’s condemnation of the Brown decision and viewed it as too extreme. Furthermore, many moderate and liberal lawmakers across the country rejected the manifesto outright, leading to limited support beyond the group of signatories.
