Rhodopis was a young woman from Thrace who was kidnapped by pirates and sold into slavery in Egypt. She was eventually purchased by Charaxus of Mytilene, a wealthy Greek businessman, who was impressed by her beauty and wit.
Charaxus fell in love with Rhodopis and treated her well, giving her expensive gifts and luxuries. One day, while bathing in the Nile River, Rhodopis lost one of her sandals, which was carried down the river and eventually found by the Pharaoh Amasis.
Amasis was so enchanted by the delicate sandal that he sent his men throughout the kingdom to find its owner. When Rhodopis was brought before him, he was immediately smitten and took her as his wife.
Rhodopis became a powerful and influential figure in Egypt, using her position to help the less fortunate and to promote peace and harmony between the different cultures of the region.
Some versions of the story also mention that Amasis had a statue of Rhodopis made entirely out of gold, which he displayed in a prominent location in the city.
Throughout history, Rhodopis has been celebrated as a symbol of beauty and grace, as well as a reminder of the power of determination and resilience even in the face of adversity.
