How has Jem and attitude about courage changed from the beginning of story?

Jem's attitude about courage changes significantly from the beginning of the story. At the beginning, Jem is portrayed as a rash and impulsive boy, who is not afraid to take risks and challenge himself. He is often seen taking risks and acting without thinking, such as when he breaks Mrs. Dubose's camellia bush or sneaks into the Radley house. However, as the story progresses Jem goes through change and he become more thoughtful, matured and understanding. He begins to realize that courage is not just about being physically brave, but also about doing what is right, even when it is difficult or dangerous. He stands up for Scout when she is being bullied, and he supports Atticus when he defends Tom Robinson. Jem's growth and development is showcased in the scene when he defends his father against the mob. He is able to stand up to them and shows his emotional strength and inner courages by defying them and protecting his father. These demonstrates Jem's evolving understanding of courage and growth as a character through out the story.
