Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, on October 12, 1862, Juan Gorordo studied philosophy and theology at the San José Seminary. He was ordained a priest on April 17, 1887.
He held various positions in the Archdiocese of Guadalajara before being appointed Bishop of Zacatecas on October 3, 1902, and consecrated on January 18, 1903.
During his time as Bishop of Zacatecas, Juan Gorordo founded the Diocesan Seminary of Zacatecas and established several Catholic schools and orphanages. He was also a vocal opponent of the anti-clerical policies of Mexican President Plutarco Elias Calles during the 1920s.
In 1929, he resigned as Bishop of Zacatecas due to health reasons and retired to Guadalajara, where he died on June 10, 1933.
